Most elite gymnasts began training at a very young age, spending at least four hours a day developing their talent.
At Cardiff Central Youth Club, Tania and her fellow coaches believe an athlete can be successful in both sport and education.
The coach plays the role of parent, educator and teacher, equipping them with skills for life, not just gymnastics.
Tania, who was a gymnast herself, takes pride in their approach.
“We make sure they don’t miss out on anything at school,” Tania added.
“If the girls are struggling we reduce their training schedule to accommodate that. It is possible to balance sports and education without either suffering.
“We take pride in helping them with their education while teaching them new skills to improve in their gymnasts. We introduce a word of the week to integrate education into training which proved to be successful.
“We as coaches are role models, and we take that seriously.”
